"I Am Married Spiritual", Yeni Kuti Speaks On Her Marital Status

Yeni Kuti (popularly known as YK), has spoken concerning her relationship status while discussing marital issues and the societal expectations of women regarding marriage. In a recent interview on TVC, the daughter of the late music legend, Fela Kuti, revealed what she tells people when they ask about her marital status.

Addressing the topic, Yeni Kuti said, "The problem is the persistent expectations of women from society." You are not considered a woman if you do not have a husband, and I do not agree with that. It is fine if you find a husband who you love and who loves you. However, it is not the entirety of a woman's life. We should know that.

She continued, "I am okay. I am in a relationship, and I am okay if we do not get married, as it subtracts nothing from me. As far as I am concerned, we are spiritually married. I tell people who ask me that I am married spiritually. I do not have to get married in a government registry where someone will sign off on me.
