 Family Cheat D€ath As House Collapsed Due To Heavy Downpour (Photos)

A family of three has escaped death on the whisker as their house, a rented apartment along Idua road in Eket Local government area collapsed into the drainage due to heavy downpour.

Narrating their ordeal, Mrs. Victoria Williams Udoh, said while they were sleeping around 2pm, they heard some movement and immediately they stood up to check what was happening, all of a sudden, the entire room collapsed into the drainage and gone. 

She said, "We heard noises and stood up to check what was happening. Immediately we stood up, the bedroom and kitchen sinked down and we were struggling to escape but the parlour was locked. 

"My husband and I have to forcefully opened the door to escape. We lost everything including the N370,000 that I wanted to send to Aba to buy clothes. I sell clothes along Idua road. The gas cooker, fridge, pots, foam, everything have gone including my husband documents. 

A weeping Victoria said the only thing they could rescued was their child. 

"We are left with one cloth that we wore to sleep. We don't have anywhere to go and we are appealing to Government to come to our rescue."

Also speaking, Mr. William Udoh, while we were sleeping this night, we heard some noises and was thinking it is thief but all of a sudden the whole house collapsed. I have lost all my documents, television, furnitures, I mean everything.

Another tenant, Destiny Ime Friday described the event as unfortunate coming at a time where people are struggling for survival. She said since the sad event took them on a surprise at the dead hour, she has been restless, appealing for relief materials from government to leverage their challenges.

A sympathizer who came to witness the unfortunate event, called for the construction of the drainage system that was handled by Bulletine Construction Company Nigeria Ltd to link the existing drainage to checkmate future occurrence.
