FCT Minister's Warning Against Anti-Government Protests

 FCT Minister's Warning Against Anti-Government Protests



- No Protests Allowed: The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has warned that any form of anti-government protest will not be allowed in the FCT .


- Reason for the Warning: The warning was given because the planned protest coincides with the proposed date for the presentation of certificates of recognition to traditional rulers in all the Area Councils of the FCT, scheduled for August 1st, 2024.


- Right to Protest: The Minister acknowledged that Nigerians in the FCT have the right to protest as enshrined by the law, but emphasized that the protest must be done within the ambit of the law .


- Security Council Meeting: The warning was given shortly after the FCT Security Council Meeting, which was attended by the Heads of the various Security Agencies and the six Area Council Chairmen of the FCT .


- Nationwide Protests: The planned protest is part of a nationwide protest against economic crisis, which has received widespread condemnation from Nigerians .


- Security Forces on High Alert: Security forces have put their men on red alert to forestall anarchy, which they said is the intention of promoters of the planned protest .
