President Bola Tinubu has reassured Nigerians that his administration's economic reforms are free from manipulation by any interest group. He attributed his election victory to divine intervention, careful planning, and support from Nigerians, emphasizing that he spent his personal fortune on the campaign without indebtedness to any individual or institution.
During a meeting with Islamic leaders at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, President Tinubu:
1. Denied having a cabal or sponsors.
2. Emphasized the importance of a good conscience in fighting corruption.
3. Highlighted the need to prioritize the future of Nigerian children.
4. Cautioned against protests fueled by anger and hate, warning they could lead to violence and set the country back.
5. Outlined his administration's social welfare plans, including:
- Reworking the social welfare scheme to reach the ward level.
- Re-establishing connection with wards to provide allowances to the poor and vulnerable.
- Implementing student loans and consumer credit programs.
- Increasing the minimum wage by over 100 percent.
6. Accused sponsors of protests of prioritizing selfish ambitions over national interest and lacking love for the country.
The leader of the Islamic delegation, Sheikh Bala Lau, assured President Tinubu of their support through prayers and sensitization, emphasizing the importance of peace in the country.
