In a grand handing-over ceremony held at the council Secretaria in Ebem Ohafia, Chief Eleanya Ojuu Kalu took the reins as the Executive Chairman of Ohafia Local Government Area. The event drew the who's who of Ohafia, including traditional rulers, business leaders, investors, clergy, professionals, and local government employees.
Outgoing Chairman Chief Dr. David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve and thanked local government employees and traditional rulers for their support. He encouraged them to extend the same support to the incoming chairman, emphasizing Chief Kalu's commitment to driving development in the local government
Chief Eleanya Ojuu Kalu, accompanied by Deputy Chairman Chief Dr. Eme Iro, thanked God for the opportunity to serve. He acknowledged the role of Executive Governor Dr. Alex C. Otti in ensuring a level playing field for all contestants, resulting in opposition parties securing wins - a historic first in Abia State ¹. Chief Kalu pledged to work towards a better Ohafia, seeking prayers and support from the community.

This development follows Governor Alex Otti's inauguration of 17 Local Government Area Transition Committee Chairmen, charging them to create conducive environments for production and growth ¹. Chief Eleanya Ojuu Kalu's endorsement by Chief Nwaka Inem, Adviser to the Abia State Governor on Trade, had previously strengthened his campaign for the November 2024 election .
